Maxine Sherman
(Therapeutic Movement Specialist)
Maxine believes in gratitude and body positivity. Our bodies are unique, resilient and imperfectly beautiful.
With awareness, accessed through diaphragmatic breath, we drop-in and connect to its power and intelligence, and make changes (and often a shift in attitude) toward optimum health and longevity. Believing in the possibility and potential of your body is the first step to moving through each day with self-care, confidence, joy, heightened energy and functional alignment.
We begin to move mindfully without pain, and become grateful for the body we have: a physical, spiritual and mental being who pays attention to sitting, walking, playing sports and living life to its fullest.
Of course this doesn’t happen overnight. We all have a body part we despise or have given up on. That’s normal, but when we quiet the chatter and negativity we experience this “imaginary monster” in a new way. It becomes an impetus for change and renewed determination and strength.
Soon, with correct breathing, mindfulness, reorganized muscle patterning, visualization, discipline, kindness and yes, gratitude, the image of the “monster” evaporates and a transformation begins. The result is a calm nervous system, clear body biomechanics and a more balanced, embodied state of being–The Most Integrated-Pain-Free You!
As a therapeutic movement specialist and life-long practitioner of mindful movement, Maxine has a vast knowledge of what works for each client. When you are stiff you need to move, weak you need to stabilize and when injured you need to pause. Your wellness depends on conscious movement and stillness.
With numerous certifications, 18 year of experience as a principal dancer with both Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham and 15+ years of teaching at her fingertips, Maxine will guide you through an hour session specifically tailored for you.
Inspired by modalities such as Pilates, Gyrotonic, Dance Fundamentals, Yoga, Qigong, Feldenkrais, Melt Method, Continuum Movement, Franklin Method, Yamuna, Kinetic Awareness, Myofascial Release, Resistance/Weight training, Certification in Rehabilitation for Special Populations from the Kane School of Core Integration, as well as a BA in Body Therapies and MFA in Performance Studies, Maxine is a storehouse of experience and expertise.
